What else do I need to use the machine?
General:
- A Computer to Run Easel. Check the system requirements.
- X-Carve Pro is compatible with other CAD/CAM software and GRBL gcode senders.
- Easel is a web-based application that runs off your internet browser. Internet access is required to complete the X-Carve Pro assembly and setup using Easel.
- Table/Workbench: What size workbench or table do you recommend for the X-Carve Pro machines?
- Dedicated non-GFCI/GFI 120v outlet and/or breaker
- Bits - for carving.
Recommended:
- Easel Pro Subscription
- Dust Control:
For the 4x2:
-
Threaded Clamps - for holding down materials.
- Recommended:
- Upgrades (4x2 only):
The X-Carve Pro was designed to be used with Easel software, so your computer should be able to run the Easel driver as well as maintain a stable internet connection. A more detailed list of system requirements can be found in the System Requirements article.
X-Carve Pro uses a GRBL-based controller and will work with other software. If you would like to use your software, follow the guides here: File Import Guide
You will also need a table or workbench to support the machine. We recommend a 6’x6’ table or bench for the 4x4 machine and a 6'x3' for the 4x2 machine that should be rated to support 350+ pounds of weight. It is also helpful to keep in mind extra space on the table for material feedthrough with larger materials and/or a place for your computer if you do not have a separate place.
The X-Carve Pro plugs into a standard non-GFCI/GFI 120v outlet/breaker. Industrial-grade CNC machines that allow for the spindle speed to be controlled by the operator are powered by Variable Frequency Drives that are not compatible with GFCI outlets/breakers. (We do recommend the X-Carve Pro is on its own circuit, but the VFD for the spindle is integrated into the controller, so you'll only have one plug to put in your outlet.)
Carving bits are recommended. The bits you use are specific to the material and project. For more information, you can reference these support articles:
You can browse our bit selection and use the filter on the website to find various bits here: https://www.inventables.com/categories/carving-bits.
Utilizing the filter, you can choose bits based on the use, type, cutting material, size, and more.
